Helms ADU new construction

1,200-sq-ft ADU new construction at the rear yard of the existing single-family house property. 

The ADU is a significant solution for LA's housing crisis but still, architects face substantial design challenges of limited views, daylight, outdoor space, and privacy due to the higher dwelling density in the typical condition of R zoning lots. The project handled typical architectural elements such as skylights, balconies, window proportions, and positioning in an unexpected way to address these issues while respecting the privacy of the owner's home and improving the residential environment for the ADU tenants. Work completed in 2022.
